These awards promote the value and important contribution of volunteering to the social, cultural, economic and environmental well-being of our communities and pay tribute to those who inspire and promote the spirit of volunteerism through their exemplary endeavours.

WSMLLEN – Reading Buddies Program

The Reading Buddies volunteers support the development of improved reading skills, demonstrate to students the value of volunteering, helping others and building stronger communities.

Young Volunteer Award
Alannah Williams

Alannah has demonstrated her leadership skills through countless hours of volunteer service to her community. Her dedication and volunteering efforts make her a role model for other youth.

Young Landcare Leader Award
Callum Nicholson

Callum’s participation and enthusiasm in planning and organising Project Platypus saw the project engage youth volunteers from Melbourne, Interstate and Internationally.

Individual Landcarer Award
Mark McKew

Mark has been a Landcare champion by promoting sustainable agriculture and conservation grazing. Encouraging discussion, education and planning in relation to climate change and farming.

New Resident Volunteer Award
Bruce Donnelly

Bruce is a dedicated volunteer and whenever there is a project to undertake, he is the first to put his hand up. Volunteering has assisted in connecting him with the Dimboola community.

Lifetime Achievement Award
Liz Hopkins

Liz has shown incredible commitment as the volunteer coordinator, editor and publisher for the North West Grampians Newsletter, by ensuring the newsletter has gone to press on time for 30 years.

Creative Communities Award
Fiesta Committee – Fiesta Fridays in February

This grass roots community initiative is run by volunteers and brings low cost music, fun and activities to the Nhill township in a positive, creative ensuring accessibility for all.

Emergency, Recovery and Rehabilitation Award
Stawell, Pomonal and Halls Gap Brigades – CFA Northern Grampians

CFA District 16 encompasses a rural landmass of 16,200 sq km. CFA volunteers commit thousands of hours a year to the safety and wellbeing of their communities and surrounding environment.

Celebrating Diversity Award
Oasis Wimmera – Dance with Diversity

Once in two years, Oasis hosts “Dance with Diversity” in Horsham, which is a celebration of all cultures through the mediums of music, dance and food. While good management in episodic volunteering underpins this activity.

Energy, Conservation and Environment Award
Nhill Swamp Wildlife Reserve Boardwalk Restoration Project

The boardwalk is an important recreational area for Nhill residents and visitors to the region. The restoration involved many innovative approaches to involving and retaining volunteers throughout the project.

Community Landcare Group Award
Laharum Landcare Group – FTLA Inc.

Through family friendly activities such as annual plant-outs held throughout the year, landcare awareness is raised as is an understanding of conservation management within in the local area.

Sporting Body Award
Jeparit Anglers Club Inc. – Jeparit Easter Fishing Competition

This successful competition utilises the skills and efforts of countless volunteers from Jeparit. The influx of visitors to the region during this period boosts the local economy and brings the entire community together.

Community Governance Award
LINK Neighbourhood House Inc.

Through good governance and leadership the LINK Neighbourhood House has established a friendly, proactive and flexible organisation that has the demonstrated ability to adapt to the changing needs of an increasingly diverse community.

Wimmera Uniting Care – Foster Care Program

The volunteer foster carers provide support to children from vulnerable families across six shires during a time when they cannot live with their own families. Becoming a foster carer can make a difference for generations.

Grampians Community Health – Active for Life

Volunteers underpin the Active for Life program which empowers people to take control of their own fitness by providing appropriate activities and information to reduce chronic illness, social isolation and improve mental health.
