Volunteering Recognition Awards
A fundamental part of our work is to ‘celebrate and promote the role of volunteering’. Volunteering can mean different things to different people.
Indeed many volunteers themselves often do not consider what they do to help the community as ‘volunteering’. The Volunteering Recognition Awards were launched in 2013 to recognise not only the outstanding efforts of the many volunteers throughout the Wimmera Mallee and Northern Grampians, but also in recognition of the work that volunteer involving organisations and programs do in supporting and engaging their communities.
The main point of difference with these awards is that there are only a few individual awards, a key focus is on volunteer involving organisations and volunteer programs. The awards are funded mainly through donations and sponsorship with out the support of our communities these awards would not be possible.
Volunteering is the ultimate exercise in democracy. You vote in elections once a year, but when you volunteer, you vote every day about the kind of community you want to live in.
